Arika Linton is an innovator, creative, and lifelong educator committed to utilizing her platform to mentor teens and young adults across the Chicagoland area. Arika currently serves as the Director of Secondary Success at a nonprofit organization, OneGoal, where she coaches educators on having impactful, culturally responsive, and insightful postsecondary conversations. 

 

Before joining OneGoal, she served as the Senior Recruitment Manager at City Year Chicago, where she led all the local recruitment efforts and was responsible for exposing young adults (18-24) to the benefits of a pro-path career. Through this effort, Arika organized partnerships with community-based organizations, universities, high schools, and more. To date, Arika's biggest accomplishment in this role was her partnership with the WNBA Champions, Chicago Sky, for a Mental Health Basketball Game. Lastly, serving in this role, Arika recruited and talked with more than 400 students about the benefits of City Year, leading Chicago to become the #1 site for recruitment across all networks for the 2023 school year.

 

Before joining City Year Chicago, Arika worked 5 years as a school leader in the capacities of Dean of Students, Postsecondary Manager, and Senior Seminar Teacher. In her role as Dean of Students (2017-2020), her focus was the implementation of Restorative Practices, and she championed strengthening the culture and climate of the West Garfield Park community she served in. Through these efforts, she spear-headed external partnerships between Luster Products, Mielle Organics, WCIU, and more. Her proudest accomplishment in this role was participating in the Live Broadcast of Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Push "Women's History Month" panel for Black Women in Education, where she represented millennial women of color. In her former role as Postsecondary Manager and Senior Seminar Teacher (2020-2022), she led her students to receive the highest recognition from ISAC for FAFSA completion. In addition to this, she curated the Dream Job Series and College and Career Week, which she designed as an in-class discussion featuring executives from Target, Warner Records, ABC 7 News Chicago, WGCI, and more to empower students to see themselves after high school. Lastly, her proudest accomplishment in this role was leading her senior class to receive over 2 million dollars in four-year scholarships. 

 

In Arika's freelance time, she has served as a writer for various publications such as The Chicago Defender, Blavity, 21Ninety, PYNK Magazine, and more. Penning Op-Ed pieces on Womanhood, Single Parenting, and Sisterhood. She additionally serves as the social media specialist for Trinity United Church of Christ tripling their online engagement and driving the message of Christ, Culture, and Community for all. 

 

Having received many recognitions for her work in mentorship, education, and media from the WNBA Chicago Sky Redefine Possible (2017 Recipient) and Black Women's Professional League 40 Under 40 (2022 Recipient), UNCF Millennial Mastermind (2023 Recipient) Arika's proudest accomplishment and recognition is serving as a mom to her brilliant 5-year-old son, Zion.
